The Gunnar Challenge

This was in my inbox yesterday:

Congrats! You won a free pass to the Gunnar Challenge.

Thanks to Modern Mom, I won a free pass for the 8 week challenge.

Yep, I am going to do The Gunnar Challenge.
Gunnar is a trainer to the stars and he has come up with an 8 week challenge in which he e-mails you a menu plan each week which includes a grocery list plus a daily workout schedule which you can choose for either the gym or at-home workouts.  So I am going to take this challenge and see where I end up in 8 weeks.  Wish me luck.

Fitness Friday

Hey, hey, hey (remember Fat Albert saying that on the Saturday morning cartoons as a kid?)  Anyways, it is Friday.  Yeah, where did the week go?  Getting geared up for the weekend and hoping you have major plans.  Ours is going to be busy plus the humidty came back so the air is on.

Now on to Fitness Friday which is a recap of my workout routine the past week.

Mang running animation | The Mang Blorg

Saturday –  5.93 mile bike ride in 59.49 minutes (did this with the kiddos so it was a little slow)

Sunday – Walk 3 min/Run 3 min for 33 minutes and went 2.55 miles

Monday – 20 minute walk/ 30 min circuit class / 50 min water walk

Tuesday – Walk 3 min/Run 3 min for 33 minutes and went 2.46 miles / 30 min. yoga

Wednesday – 30 min circuit class

Thursday – Rest day

Friday – Walk 3 min/Run 3 min for 33 minutes and went 2.61 miles / 30 min. circuit class

What a busy week I have had.  Didn’t do to bad in my fitness and the running definitely got easier.

So this morning I got up and did my 3 min walk/3 min run for 33 minutes and went 2.61 miles.

Me oh my, this running thing is defintely getting easier and I am defintely getting faster with my runs.  Who knew, I might actually become a runner.

Now off to my eye doctor appointment and then work.  I am running a little late today.  Have a great friday.

P.S.  I updated the Weightloss Page.

Toasty Tuesday

Toasty Tuesday is what the Weather Lady called it on the local tv station this morning.  That doesn’t sound good at all.  She called it Toasty Tuesday because we are to reach 99° today.  That is before the heat index kicks in.  Oh, the air conditioning is going to be a rock’n today.

Must admit this is one amazing woman:

Gabrielle Gifford returned to the senate last night to make her vote just seven months after being shot point blank in the head.  What an amazing and strong woman.  To overcome being shot in the head and be able to talk, walk and make a very important vote.  AMAZING.  She said it was very important for her to be there to vote so it wasn’t her not voting that caused our country to default on our loans.  I hope my daughter grows up to be as strong as her.

Now on to me, so yesterday I headed out for my 30 minute circuit class.  Well the class turned into one person, yep me.  Just little ole me and the trainer.  So I got a free personal trainer session.  Score except he worked me hard.  So this was the workout routine:

  • Warm up
  • Walking lunges w/ overhead press w/ 10 lb dumbbells – 10X
  • Walking lunges holding 10 lb dumbbells at side – 10X
  • 60 sec ellipitcal run – resistance 10
  • Incline press w/ 10 lb dumbbels to standing overhead press – 20 sec
  • 60 sec ellipitcal run – resistance 10
  • Walking lunges with 10 lb dumbbels – 10X
  • 60 sec ellipitcal run – resistance 11
  • Ball squats – 20 sec.
  • 5 step ups on right leg – 5 step ups on left leg
  • Ball squats – 20 sec
  • 5 step ups on right leg – 5 step ups on left leg
  • calf machine with 50 lb weight – 10 X
  • calf raises with body weight – 10 X
  • calf machine with 50 lb weight – 10X
  • calf raises with body weight – 10X
  • Push ups – close grip – on bench – 10X
  • Tricep machine – 70lb – 10X
  • Push ups – close grip – on bench – 10X
  • Tricep machine – 60 lb – 10X
  • Bicep machine – 80 lb – 10X
  • Lat pull down machine – 75 lb – 10 X
  • Bicep machine – 80 lb – 10X
  • Lat pull down machine – 75 lb – 10X
  • 60 sec different ab exercises.

Let me tell you, I was one sweaty person by the end and my calves are hurting today.

Last night after supper Hubby and I went for our water walk for 50 minutes.  It was a good exercise day yesterday.  Confession:  When we got home from water walking I had Skinny Cow ice cream – strawberry cheesecake.  I have never had this before and boy was it so, so good.  Defintely will be buying this kind again.

This morning I got up and took the pups for a quick 10 minute walk and then off for my walk/run.

This is my walk 3 minutes/run 3 minutes for 33 minutes.  I went 2.46 miles.  Yes, that is less miles than on Sunday but I ran the whole time and didn’t go as fast.  My legs were hurting but the run wasn’t as tough as on Sunday.  Plus before I left I ate 1/2 a banana with peanut butter.  I think I would rather get the running down and then work on the speed rather than not being able to run the whole time.  I am very proud of myself that the runs are actually getting easier.  Plus I actually ran for 15 minutes this morning.  Yeah me.

So once I got back from my run I was hungry.

Another yogurt bowl with strawberries and peanut butter granola.  Yum, yum, yum.  I am craving these.  It must be because it is so hot out and this cools me right down.  Plus I had iced coffee.

Now off to do the work thang.

P.S.  Don’t forget to vote for Fort Dodge, Iowa in the Bark for Your Park contest.  There is one more day.  Please help us get a dog park for our dogs.  They would so appreciate it plus it will be the only one in Iowa.

Please vote and make me so, so happy.

Fitness Friday

You know what today is?  It is TIG which also means it is Fitness Friday.

Mang running animation | The Mang Blorg(source)

So this is a recap of what I have done the past week for fitness plus how I felt.

Saturday – Rest day

We all need a rest day at least once a week.

Sunday – Walk 4minutes/Run 2 minutes (repeat) in 31:19 minutes/2.28 miles

Yes, the only thing I did on Sunday was run and I ended up cutting this run short by 2 minutes because it started to rain.  As you know I have started the Beginner’s Guide to Running for Weight Loss and I am on Stage 3.  This is a fabulous program.  I absolutely love it.  It gives me enough recover time after my run that I am not winded when it is time to start running again.  I do believe that I just might become a runner.  Who knew?

Monday – 20 minute walk – 50 minute water walk

In the mornings I take the pups for a 20 minute walk and then at night I go to the local pool and I walk the lazy river but I walk against the jets as they are still running so this makes this work out very hard.  I am proud of myself for doing this.

Tuesday – Walk 4 minutes/Run 2 minutes (repeat) in 33:00 minutes/2.33 miles – 45 minute water walk

Whoa, look at me I did the complete run for 33 minutes plus I did the water walk.  No wonder I was so tired that night.

Wednesday – 20 minute walk – 20 minute strength training workout

I walked the pups in the morning and then at night I made up my own 20 minute strength training workout and it had me sweating by the end.  The reason I did the strength train is because I missed out on my circuit classes this week due to picking Bubba up from football camp.

Thursday – Walk 4 minutes/Run 2 minutes (repeat) in 33:00 minutes/2.36 miles – 10 minutes of Yoga

Look it there, I increased my mileage from Tuesday on my run, yes, it is only .03 miles but hey it is progress, right?  I am proud of myself I completed Stage 3 of the run.  Yeah!!  I did 10 minutes of yoga at night because I am tight from the running which by tight I mean my hamstrings and calves.  It felt wonderful to stretch.

Friday – 20 minute walk

I did take the pups for their 20 minute walk this morning and I am hoping to hit up my circuit class today since Bubba is done with football camp.

Have a great Friday.

P.S. Don’t forget to vote for Fort Dodge, Iowa in the Bark for Your Park contest.
