Monthly Archives: March 2012
Sorry for no posts over the weekend but I was crazy busy.
Plus, I cleaned all of the carpets in the house. That took most of Saturday and half of Sunday. It takes forever to clean carpets but now my carpet is fluffy again.
Hubby mowed the yard. Can you believe it on March 24th we had to mow the yard. That is crazy. I do not ever remember mowing the yard in March before. I told him that is going to make for a long summer of mowing.
This crazy lady finally came home. After a week at the grandparents she was ready to come home. Now the family is back together again. Let the fun (or arguing begin). Wait, the arguing started 5 minutes after the kids were back together. Nothing like siblings loving each other to make the house complete. Plus, here is the link to her final guest blog on Grandpa’s Bog – The Writing Deputy.
I was going to get up and do my Week 4, Day 1 of Bootcamp but Bubba crashed on the couch last night so I was unable to do it without waking him up. Apparently the 10 feet to his bed was way too far for him last night. Good thing they don’t have school today. I am excited to start week 4 of bootcamp.
This guy comes home today:
As a mother, there are days where the kids absolutely drive me crazy but with him being gone since Sunday, I have actually missed him and can’t wait to see him tonight. I’m sure if he knew how excited I was to see him, he would just roll his eyes.
Hubby and I took the day off so we could do some car shopping. We are thinking of getting a different car because the one we have is a gas guzzler and I do not think gas prices are ever going to get cheaper, heck no. Someone obviously doesn’t have a big enough mansion yet so he has to stick it to the little guys in order to get his new mansion.
So we headed out and stopped at a car dealership and test drove 2 different cars. I was not impressed so we decided to do a little shopping meaning stopping by Sam’s Club, Trader’s Joe, Barnes and Noble and then lunch. Then as we were heading out-of-town we stopped at another car dealership (different kind of car then this morning) and test drove 2 other cars. We decided to negotiate on one of the cars and see where it went. Well, needless to say Hubby was not happy and was getting irate so we left without a new car.
Well, it is a good thing because on the way home the worst thing happened. We ended up getting a flat tire. I was sleeping and I woke up (jumped up and hit the roof of the car) when I heard a pop. Hubby pulled over and sure enough we had a flat tire. So first we are getting the jack out and we cannot get it out of the car. It was stuck in the cubby hole, we worked at it for 5 minutes and finally it came out. Then it was off to get the spare tire down from underneath the car. We worked, worked and worked and it would not lower. Finally a nice trucker stopped and helped hubby get the tire down. Hubby told him we could get it from here (one of many mistakes Hubby made today). We couldn’t get the jack to go down to get it under the car. Frustrating. Finally, about 10 minutes later, another guy stopped. Well, he had someone else’s vehicle and had trouble getting the jack out of the car. Finally he got his jack out and they started to jack up the car, except it wasn’t working correctly. It was only moving the frame and not the entire car. Finally they got it up enough that we could get our jack under the car and could get the flat tire off. We put the spare on, paid the guy $5.00 for stopping and letting us use his jack and got the new tire on. Well, the spare was really low. Thankfully a gas station was 2 miles away (one good thing about living in the Midwest, there are random gas stations in the middle of nowhere). We put air in the tire and finally got home.
What a crazy day. Now it is time for a glass of wine and to watch American Idol.
Have a great night and hopefully you have had a better day.
This is my father’s blog. I had no clue he even knew what a blog was. What the heck? The secrets your parents still keep from you no matter what age they are. So if you read through the blog you will see that Chickie is the guest blogger today. If you continue to read the blog you will see the book that my dad had published.
Yes, my father had a book published and that was another thing that he kept hidden from me. He didn’t tell me about it until 1 month before it was due to be published.
The secrets your parents keep from you. Makes me wonder how many other secrets that have kept from me (some I’m sure I don’t want to find out but others I am sure will tell an interesting story).
Bring on Week 3.
If only this title had something to do with me watching the new Footloose movie over the weekend, it so does not.
So the weekend started with going to Chickie’s last volleyball games of the year.
Their coach was a high school girl, Aspen (which I absolutely love that name), which was really beneficial for the girls because she plays volleyball and she could teach them about the game better than any other parent could.
The one thing that chickie improved on was serving overhand. When she started playing this year she was unable to get it over the net but on Saturday she was serving overhand. Must say I am might proud of her.
The rest of Saturday was spent enjoying the unseasonably warm weather of the upper 70s. Yes, we set a new record here in Central Iowa, we had 4 days in a row of 80° weather last week. Hard to believe it is the middle of March, it is feeling like the middle of May and yes, the farmers are out working the fields like crazy.
So today was all about this:
Three of these big babies headed out early this afternoon headed for DC. They are driving straight through. I am oh so glad it isn’t me sitting on the bus with 40 loud teenagers but part of me wishes I was there to see all the sights in our nation’s capital. I told Bubba to take pictures and hopefully he will be doing a recap next week of his trip.
We just got back from taking Chickie to spend the week with Grandma and Grandpa and that my folks, is why I am footloose and fancy free. No children until Friday!!!!!!!!!! Now it would only get better if I didn’t have to work and still continue with the 80 degree weather this week.
I am off to fetch myself a glass of wine, check out next weeks bootcamp schedule and fall more in love with my husband. Have a great night.
It is really starting to look like spring.
These are daffodils that I bought when they were selling them for the American Cancer Society. Since cancer has affected me so closely, I do everything I can to help support the American Cancer Society. So I came in this morning and these flowers were in full bloom on my desk. How can it not scream spring. Plus the midwest broke another record today. It hit 81° in Central Iowa today. How can you not think of spring.
So last night we went for another walk and the kiddos rode their scooters. Bubba was riding along and all of sudden his scooter goes to the left and he goes to the right. When he finally came up, the cement got the best of him.
He got a bruise above his right eyebrow plus his elbow was scraped up. He is lucky he didn’t crack his head open. I thought for sure he would come up with blood gushing out of his head. Very thankful that didn’t happen. So this morning what did the eyebrow look like?
Self portrait courtesy of Bubba. He didn’t do a very good job but you can see Chickie checking it out in the mirror. Plus we did this on the way to school. You can see his right eyebrow is puffy and now today his eyelid is black and blue. Only kids.
Now off to find Chickie’s volleyball shirt because both her and her dad are looking for it and they can’t find it anywhere. Shocking (not really, only mom knows where everything is). Then we are off to her volleyball game. Have a great night.
(EDITED: The shirt was hanging on the back of the bathroom door and neither one of them could find it after looking for 5 minutes.)
Something new that I have joined: Being a Bzzz Agent. Have you heard of this? It is surveys you take and then you are sent items to review and give your honest opinion of them. So I signed up a couple weeks ago and they sent me my first item to review.
Science Diet Ideal Balance Cat Food. I was super excited to check this out because I have never bought this kind of cat food before.
What I first noticed when I poured it into the bowl was how small the kiblets are. Normally they are twice the size, in any cat food that I have ever bought, which really made me very happy. I also noticed it did not have a terrible smell to it, let’s be honest pet food doesn’t always smell the best.
As you can tell, Tabby absolutely loved it. In fact, she ate the entire bowl. She doesn’t ever do that with her food. No matter how little or how much we give her. She also did not have any stomach issues with it. Normally when we introduce her to new food, she has stomach issues with it and we end up seeing it later in the day on the carpet.
I will definitely be switching to Science Diet Ideal Balance cat food for her.
So this morning I was feeling like oatmeal again.
- 1/4 cup oats
- 1 egg white
- 1/4 cup almond milk
- 1/3 cup water
- 2 tsp chia seeds
- 2 tsp flaxseeds
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- sprinkle of cinnamon.
I cooked this on the stovetop until it was creamy and then I added in 1 tsp. of:
Then I topped with oatmeal with strawberries. Yum, yum and more yum. In fact, I got full before I even finished the bowl and it kept me full until noon. That is the reason I love oatmeal. It sticks with you.
By this afternoon it was 67°. It felt like a spring day, so the entire family went for a walk before supper.
It was absolutely gorgeous out. The dogs loved being outside, the kids rode their scooters. We ended up doing 2 1/2 miles which was fabulous for all of us. When we got home this is what was popping up:
Yep, the tulips are coming up. I really hope that we don’t get any more snow, it is only the 13th of March but oh the hope that I feel seeing the tulips. I just feel myself coming alive knowing the warm weather and all the beautiful colors will start showing up everywhere you look. Spring is my favorite time of the year.
Off to watch the Biggest Loser, have a great night.
